Councillor turns on his own residents for fly-tipping in impassioned TikTok rant: ‘Have some pride in where you live!’
Newham independent councillor Mehmood Mirza has urged residents to stop dumping household items on local streets, saying people should take responsibility instead of blaming the council. His TikTok video, filmed beside discarded furniture and a child’s swing, highlights a persistent problem in the east London borough.
Mirza said residents can book free bulky-waste collections online, covering up to six items, three times a year, and asked people to report fly-tipping. Newham has also launched a “Wall of Shame” using CCTV footage and offers £100 to residents who identify suspected offenders. Elsewhere in London, Hillingdon has warned of fines of up to £1,000 and prosecution, and crushed a truck linked to illegal dumping.
