Two Sheffield councillors have publicly disagreed over who deserves credit for resurfacing Myrtle Road in Heeley, after residents had long complained the road was in an "atrocious" state due to extensive potholes. Reform councillor Matt Smith, newly elected in May for the Park and Arbourthorne ward, said he had pushed for the repairs throughout the summer but was not notified when the work went ahead, and was angered after seeing footage of Labour councillor Ben Miskell at the site, which he felt amounted to Miskell claiming credit for his efforts.

Miskell rejected the criticism, saying the resurfacing project predated Smith's election and that he had been liaising with contractor Amey since March, with notices posted on local lampposts ahead of the works. He suggested Smith would have known about the project had he been "out and about" in the ward, while thanking him for "sending a few emails." Council officers said the failure to notify Smith directly was down to an administrative oversight.
