Rotherham's local government is pursuing plans to consolidate health services within a former retail building on Effingham Street in the town centre. The proposed facility would provide approximately 30 clinical spaces housing primary care, mental health, and community service providers in a single accessible location. The scheme is intended to alleviate demands on local general practitioner surgeries and hospital services whilst simultaneously narrowing disparities in health access and contributing to broader town centre revival.

Phase one of the project—the relocation of Abbey Pharmacy to the site—has already been completed. The second phase involves detailed design and planning work with an estimated cost of £400,000, pending council cabinet approval and funding allocation. Project leaders have referenced a comparable successful health hub in Warrington as a template for Rotherham's development.
