Court system in The Blood of Dawnwalker, explained
Polygon has published a guide explaining the court system in The Blood of Dawnwalker, a mechanic that lets players sabotage the antagonist Brencis's rule rather than relying solely on standard questing. By angering Brencis's three vassals, or boyars, through sabotage missions, players raise protagonist Coen's "infamy" level, which unlocks backstory quests and eventually allows Coen to join the anti-Vrakhir rebellion known as the Manumits.
The guide details how, after the prologue, a "Court" tab tracks infamy and the anger levels of vassals Ambrus, Xanthe and Bakir, with sabotage opportunities appearing as players explore and quest. Killing a vassal before maxing their anger meter forfeits their associated quest, so the guide advises sparing enemies encountered early on. It also warns that rising infamy prompts Brencis to impose harsher edicts, such as extra patrols and checkpoints, so pacing sabotage missions alongside regular quests is recommended before reaching the "notorious" tier that unlocks rebel alliance options.
