Courtney A. Kemp said creators must protect the “chain of custody” showing how they developed an original idea or interpreted existing intellectual property. Speaking at Deadline’s inaugural L.A. Law Summit, the Power and Nemesis co-creator stressed that emails and other records can be vital evidence, particularly as artificial intelligence creates new legal uncertainty.
The summit’s “Rights & Wrongs of IP” panel examined creators’ legal risks, with attorney Cheryl S. Chang describing AI regulation as a fast-moving “Wild West” that lawmakers have struggled to keep pace with. Other sessions covered the creator economy, mergers and acquisitions in Hollywood, and AI-related court cases, with Deadline promising to publish recordings of the discussions.
