Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams sustained a right hamstring injury during Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings, with his highly emotional on-field reaction—dragging his leg and covering his face with a towel—initially suggesting a severe injury. However, an MRI revealed the injury to be week-to-week rather than season-ending, prompting criticism from sports commentator Craig Carton, who argued that Williams' reaction was disproportionate to the actual severity of the strain.

Carton suggested that Williams' theatrical response—crying, requiring assistance off the field, and gesturing to the crowd—gave the impression of a career-threatening injury such as a torn Achilles or ACL. Carton further criticised Williams for not embodying the blue-collar identity traditionally associated with Bears quarterbacks, comparing him unfavourably to historical figures like Jim McMahon and Brian Urlacher, and suggesting that whilst Williams may become an excellent quarterback, his demeanour risks alienating Chicago's fanbase rather than earning their genuine support.
