Creator U: Inside the Influencer Frat
USC Reach, founded in 2017, has become the leading student organisation dedicated to training content creators, blending elements of a rigorous club application process with practical industry mentorship. It receives more than 100 applications per semester for just 20 to 30 places, reflecting the growing prestige of social media creation as a legitimate career path rather than a fringe pursuit, and it now offers members direct access to major platforms and brands through partnerships and workshops.
The club connects students with companies including YouTube, Netflix, Google, Snapchat and CapCut, as well as brands such as Monster Energy, Sweetgreen and Good Molecules, giving members hands-on experience producing sponsored content. Its parent body, Reach Nationals, has expanded to more than 150 chapters across 20 US states since 2023, including at UCLA, the University of Michigan and the University of Pennsylvania, though the original USC chapter remains its flagship. Notable alumni include YouTuber Alan Chikin Chow, who has over 101 million subscribers and recently had a scripted series picked up by Netflix, alongside creators Katie Feeney, who joined ESPN, and personal finance creator Casper Opala.
