Explained simply

Crimson Desert is an open-world action game set in a fantasy land, where players follow the journeys of Cliff, Damiane and Oongka. Its existing activities focus largely on exploring and fighting across the land.

Charting the Unknown is a paid expansion that adds story missions and new ways to explore and customise the world. Players can build ships, visit islands and dive underwater, as well as develop outposts, run businesses and change their homes and castles.

The expansion also brings political conflict and an ancient secret into the characters’ continuing stories. Its mix of sea exploration, new missions and customisation matters because it widens the range of activities available in the game.
