Crowd fave Linux Mint update approaches, fresh from autumn release of Cinnamon desktop
Linux Mint 27 is expected before Christmas, based on Ubuntu 26.04, and will use the newly released Cinnamon desktop. The update matters because Cinnamon’s Wayland support is no longer experimental, while Mint also plans to restore system hibernation, a feature that can be difficult to implement reliably.
The release, codenamed “Adrien”, is set to add an alarm clock, a preview pane in the Nemo file manager, and new tools for monitoring system resources, handling compressed files and using a themed terminal. Cinnamon 2.8 also brings improvements to VPN and Wi-Fi settings, sound, touchpads, displays and desktop start-up; users can still choose an X11 session. The article also notes that LXQt 2.5 has arrived with its own Wayland development, while retaining a problem with its monitor settings after changes in KDE’s screen-management software.
In short
