Crunchyroll has launched its first-ever streaming bundle, pairing the anime service with Starz through a subscription only available via Amazon Prime Video. The combination has raised eyebrows given the two services' contrasting content, with Crunchyroll's anime library sitting oddly alongside Starz's original dramas such as Outlander spin-off Blood of My Blood and Power Book III: Raising Kanan. The move suggests Crunchyroll may pursue further bundling deals, though analysts note that anime-focused rivals like RetroCrush or HiDive would make more obvious partners.

New customers can subscribe to both services for $16.99 a month under the Prime Video-exclusive deal, with Starz Networks president Alison Hoffman saying it broadens the reach of Starz's programming to new audiences. The bundle arrives after a string of price rises and restrictions at Crunchyroll: in February its Fan, Mega and Ultimate tiers each rose by $2, to $9.99, $13.99 and $17.99 respectively, and owner Sony has also limited access to Crunchyroll's merchandise storefront to Mega and Ultimate subscribers only.
