Cucurella appeared in every match during Spain's campaign, culminating in a 1-0 victory against Argentina in the final. After the match, De la Fuente responded with good humour to learning of the intended tattoo, joking that his appearance was sufficient to warrant public display and expressing pride that his players had honoured their commitments.
