Cue Clothing Co and its sister brand Veronika Maine have entered voluntary administration, with five Australian stores closed as receivers reduce costs and seek a buyer. The closures affect locations in Woden, Parramatta, Melbourne Central, Armadale and Mosman, although the companies’ remaining stores are continuing to trade while potential buyers are considered.

Founded in 1968, Cue grew from a Sydney boutique into a major fashion retailer with about 100 standalone stores and a presence in Myer. Although sales exceeded $103 million in the latest financial year, the business recorded a $5.1 million loss, with its extensive retail network and high operating costs undermining profitability; experts say changing consumer habits and stronger price comparison made brand heritage alone insufficient.
