Cursor, the AI coding startup expected to soon be acquired by SpaceX, has launched its biggest push yet into India with the introduction of Cursor Start, its first country-specific subscription plan. The move underscores India's growing importance to Cursor, which describes the country as its third-largest market globally and the location of its highest concentration of power users, with its Indian user base more than tripling over the past year. Localised pricing is intended to broaden access among India's vast developer talent pool rather than replace Cursor's existing offering.

Cursor Start costs ₹649 a month (about $7), far below the standard $20-a-month Pro subscription, and includes access to Cursor's Composer 2.5 model and Grok 4.5, higher usage limits than the free tier, cloud agents, the iOS app, plugins, Model Context Protocol support, hooks and skills. It excludes frontier models from OpenAI and Anthropic and advanced features such as Bugbot, Auto Mode, Automations and the Cursor SDK, and is billed in rupees via cards or UPI, with checks in place to deter VPN access from outside India. Cursor joins rivals OpenAI and Anthropic in tailoring pricing for India, and executive Simon Green said the company may extend the model to other markets and has already made its first local sales hire, with plans to build out a Delhi-based team.
