Respawn Entertainment and CD Projekt Red have announced a new crossover event bringing the world of Cyberpunk 2077 and its Netflix anime spin-off Cyberpunk Edgerunners into the battle royale Apex Legends. Following previous collaborations with Final Fantasy 7 and Gundam, the event transports the game to Night City, with the change extending beyond cosmetics to gameplay and map design.

As part of the event, the E-District map is receiving a Night City-themed overhaul, while the Wildcard mode gains two Cyberpunk-inspired powers. Eight Legends are getting character skins based on figures from the two Cyberpunk properties — including Axle as Lucy, Sparrow as David Martinez and Ash as Lizzy Wizzy — with art director Alisa Rastorgueva saying pairings were chosen to match both aesthetics and personalities. The collaboration also adds numerous weapon skins across guns such as the Wingman, Mastiff and Kraber, headlined by a Mythic Alternator skin based on the Skippy variant of the Arasaka Yukimura pistol, which Respawn describes as its first Mythic weapon built entirely around an existing character, complete with tailored voice lines.

  • Apex Legends is getting a Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners crossover event.
  • Eight Legends receive skins based on Cyberpunk characters.
  • A Mythic Alternator skin recreates the talking Skippy pistol.

Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind Apex Legends, regularly runs limited-time crossover events that bring characters and themes from other franchises into its free-to-play battle royale shooter. Past examples have included tie-ins with Final Fantasy 7 and Gundam. This latest event partners with CD Projekt Red, the developer behind the role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 and its Netflix anime spin-off Cyberpunk Edgerunners, both set in the dystopian, tech-heavy Night City.

Apex Legends is played as squads of "Legends," each with distinct abilities, fighting to be the last team standing. Crossover events typically add cosmetic character and weapon skins themed around the partner franchise, but this one is described as going further by reshaping elements of the map and a game mode to fit the Cyberpunk setting.

The event matters to fans because it signals how far Respawn is willing to blend outside franchises into Apex's core gameplay rather than just its appearance, and because it extends Cyberpunk 2077's reach into one of gaming's most popular live-service titles years after the game's own troubled launch and subsequent recovery.
