Cypress Hill Embrace Latin Roots on First All-Spanish Album ‘Dios Bendiga’: ‘It’s a Prayer for the Culture’
Cypress Hill have released Dios Bendiga, their first album made entirely of original Spanish-language songs, deepening a Latino identity that has shaped the group since its early-1990s rise. The group describes the record as a “prayer for the culture”, intended to honour Latin rap’s history and resilience as the genre expands globally.
The album follows their 1999 Spanish adaptations collection Los Grandes Éxitos en Español and includes “Saca la Bolsita”, featuring Argentine rapper Trueno. Released on Friday 24 July, Dios Bendiga will be performed live in Buenos Aires on 8 November at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas; Cypress Hill have visited Argentina since 1996. The group’s wider legacy includes seven Billboard Hot 100 entries, while “Insane in the Brain” reached No. 19 in 1993 and Black Sunday debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
