Essex father fined €3,000 after toddler dies in Cyprus hotel fall

BBC World ·

A father from Essex has been fined €3,000 after admitting that a reckless act caused the death of his two-year-old son at a Cyprus hotel. The case concerns the risks of placing a young child near an open or unsecured window.

The boy fell about 40ft (12.1m) from the fourth floor of the King Evelthon Beach Hotel and Resort in Chlorakas on 12 July, the first day of the family’s holiday. Paphos District Court heard that Joshua Foster, 37, thought the window was closed when he put his son on the sill to show him a waterpark view; he was sentenced on Friday.
