She says their research, production and technical work gives presenters confidence that coverage is accurate and engaging, while allowing the newsroom to respond quickly when breaking news disrupts a planned show.

Perino describes producers finding footage, preparing graphics and scripts, and rapidly verifying information and arranging guests when events change. She recalls a line producer reassuring her during an emotional interview with a witness to the 2021 Abbey Gate bombing, and also credits assistants, technology, wardrobe, hair and make-up staff, as well as security and custodial workers, with keeping the operation running.
