Daniel Kaluuya to Make U.S. Stage Debut in New Branden Jacobs-Jenkins Play
Daniel Kaluuya will make his U.S. stage debut in Grass, a new play by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. Commissioned by Park Avenue Armory and the National Black Theatre, it is planned to premiere in February and uses the Armory’s vast New York stage to tell a story about family history and the American South.
In the play, Kaluuya and his mother take a fantastical road trip to reconstruct their family tree, meeting historical and allegorical figures along the way. Sarah Benson will direct, with set design by Mimi Lien; the production reunites the creative team behind Jacobs-Jenkins’ Obie-winning An Octoroon. Kaluuya has extensive London stage experience, including Sucker Punch and Oxford Street, but is best known internationally for film and television roles including Get Out and Judas and the Black Messiah.
