Right-wing activist Danny Tommo was arrested after filming himself slashing a dinghy in the English Channel whilst a rescue crew member was still aboard. He was detained at a petrol station on suspicion of criminal damage and endangering lives under maritime and aviation security legislation. The incident reflects escalating tensions around migrant crossings in the Channel.

The 37-year-old, of no fixed abode, slashed and stabbed the vessel on Tuesday after a crew member had boarded to return it to France. Hundreds of activists gathered in Gosport that day following Tommo's attempt to intercept a dinghy carrying dozens of migrants. A video of his arrest, posted by Tommo and associate Tommy Robinson, was viewed 350,000 times within hours; Robinson subsequently called for international support for Tommo's defence.
