Dark Souls meets Weird West in Guns of Eschaton, and it’s a refreshing FPS shake-up for the well-worn formula – even if it’s a bit bloody hard
Guns of Eschaton is a forthcoming first-person shooter that combines Soulslike mechanics with a supernatural Weird West setting, creating a slower and more tactical alternative to conventional fast-paced shooters. Its demanding combat and limited explanations may make it difficult to learn, but the preview argues that its distinctive approach offers a refreshing change to the familiar Soulslike formula.
Players use a cumbersome six-shooter that requires careful management of its six rounds and manually cocking the hammer after every shot, leaving them vulnerable during reloads. Enemies are most efficiently defeated through specific sequences of limb shots, recorded in an illustrated Codex, while parries and a dash with invulnerability frames provide alternative defensive and offensive options. The game is being developed by Eschatology Entertainment, founded by former Wargaming staff, and features a world conceived by the late Viktor Antonov, known for Half-Life 2 and Dishonored.
- A difficult Weird West FPS reworks Soulslike combat around deliberate shooting.
- Revolver management and enemy-specific shot sequences reward planning.
- Viktor Antonov’s striking visual influence shapes its supernatural desert world.
