Dave Bautista's post-apocalyptic film Afterburn has become one of the ten most-streamed movies on MGM+ in the US, offering fans a stopgap while they wait for further seasons of Fallout, the hit video-game adaptation that helped establish the genre's popularity. Fallout, starring Walton Goggins and Ella Purnell, has been one of Prime Video's biggest successes, with its second season drawing 83 million viewers in just 91 days, but a third season is not expected until at least 2027 as production continues in California.

Afterburn is set a decade after a solar flare wipes out global technology and follows a hired treasure hunter attempting to track down the Mona Lisa. The film stars Bautista alongside Olga Kurylenko and Samuel L. Jackson, though its starry cast failed to translate into box-office success, taking only a few million dollars against a reported $60 million budget. Bautista, best known for playing Drax in the Marvel films, has said he has "completely closed" the book on that character and is unlikely to appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
