Metal drummer Dave Lombardo (formerly of Slayer and Misfits) and ambient/drone pioneer Lustmord have joined forces under the name Lustmord Lombardo, unveiling their debut single "Paleomagnetic Resonance" alongside news of a full album. The pairing marks a notable departure for Lombardo, better known for high-intensity thrash drumming, into the atmospheric, experimental territory Lustmord has long championed, and adds to Lombardo's history of exploring abstract projects outside his metal roots.

The duo's debut album, The Pulse of Atoms, is due out on 2 October via Ipecac Records, with pre-orders already open in clear and smoke vinyl, CD and digital formats. Both artists described the record as deliberately genre- and era-defying, aiming for a cosmic scope evoking the birth and death of the universe rather than conventional rock sounds, with Lombardo contributing synth textures and sparse percussion rather than his trademark thrash style.
