David Lee Roth has cancelled nearly all remaining dates on his North American tour, with no explanation given, amid reports of weak ticket sales. The decision matters because Roth remains a prominent former Van Halen frontman, and the cancellation has prompted a conciliatory public response from his longtime rival and fellow former singer, Sammy Hagar.

The tour began in April and had been due to continue until August after extra dates were added; only Roth’s 7 August appearance at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota remains scheduled. Hagar said he hoped Roth was well and invited him to appear at his five-date Las Vegas residency in September, where Hagar’s Best of All Worlds band performs Van Halen material with Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani and Kenny Aronoff.
