DC Comics finally answers Marvel’s recent gaming slate with…a mobile fighting game

Destructoid · 19 hours ago

DC Comics has announced DCKO, a mobile fighting game, appearing to position it as a response to Marvel's recent string of successful gaming releases. The move has been met with a largely negative reaction, as fans and commentators note that a mobile title falls short of what DC's roster of characters deserves, especially given Marvel's momentum with titles such as Marvel Rivals, the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine, Marvel Cosmic Invasion and the long-running Marvel Snap.

DCKO is being described as resembling Marvel Contest of Champions with some mechanics borrowed from MultiVersus, and its name has drawn criticism for sounding awkward and for closely resembling the existing fighting game 2XKO. The announcement comes after a difficult run for DC in gaming, including the shutdown of DC's card battler DC Dual Force, the cancellation of MultiVersus, the failure of the live-service Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and years since the last Batman Arkham game. DC does have some ongoing successes, such as LEGO Batman, and rumours persist of a possible Injustice 3 from NetherRealm Studios, but the reception to DCKO on social media has been largely unenthusiastic.
