Dungeons & Dragons is returning to its controversial Dark Sun setting in 2027 through a new mature-content product line, signalling that Wizards of the Coast intends to cater more directly to players seeking darker, adult-oriented material. The post-apocalyptic world of Athas is known for its violence, oppressive sorcerer-kings and slavery, and the announcement suggests these central themes will remain rather than being substantially softened.

Dark Sun will lead D&D’s 2027 “Season of Survival” with three releases: the Dungeon Master-focused Edge of Oblivion, player and rules expansion Blood and Power, and a limited-edition Player’s Handbook with Dark Sun artwork. Blood and Power will introduce the Psion character class, restoring psionics as a fuller part of the game, while D&D also announced Joe Manganiello’s dark-fantasy homebrew setting Death Saves as an official product.
