Deadlock soars on Steam to take place among its top three most-played games
Valve’s Deadlock briefly became Steam’s third most-played game by concurrent players, despite still being available only through an invite-only beta. The milestone put three Valve games at the top of Steam’s charts and underscored Deadlock’s growing popularity before its official release.
Deadlock peaked at 216,000 concurrent players before setting a new record of 228,000, then was overtaken by WARDOGS. At the time, Valve’s CS2 and Dota 2 held first and second place. The surge followed the “The City Never Sleeps” overhaul and the addition of the Rat King, the first of six voted-for heroes planned to arrive on Tuesdays and Fridays.
- Deadlock reached 228,000 concurrent players on Steam.
- It briefly ranked third, behind Valve’s CS2 and Dota 2.

Valve is a US video game company that runs Steam, a major online shop and platform for PC games. Steam’s player charts rank games by how many people are playing at the same time, known as concurrent players.
Deadlock is a team-based action game made by Valve, combining character abilities with battles over territory. It is in an invite-only beta, meaning access is limited while the game is still being developed; Valve has not formally released it to everyone.
The chart also features two established Valve games, Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2. Deadlock’s place among the most-played games gives a measure of interest in it, though player numbers alone do not show how it will fare after a full release.
