Death toll rises to 50 in Russian attack on aid distribution point in Ukraine
The death toll from a Russian strike on a village in southern Ukraine has risen to 50, Ukrainian authorities said on Friday. The attack hit a building where civilians had gathered to collect humanitarian aid, making it one of the deadliest strikes in more than four and a half years of war.
Eight more bodies were recovered as search and rescue work continued at the site in Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia region. Ukraine says the strike hit a former school building and an underground shelter; the UN human rights mission said it likely violated international law. The attack followed the end of the longest ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, and US-mediated talks are due to resume in Abu Dhabi next week.
