Deep Purple’s Glenn Hughes recovering from open-heart surgery
Deep Purple bassist and vocalist Glenn Hughes is recovering at home after open-heart surgery, two months after announcing his retirement from touring because of health concerns. His update offers a positive sign following a serious operation and explains why he has stepped away from live performances.
Hughes said he spent eight days in hospital and underwent a 10-hour operation at UCLA’s Ronald Reagan Medical Center, sharing the update on 14 October. He previously had surgery to repair an enlarged aorta in 2013, cancelled a planned North American tour earlier this year, and last performed on stage on 1 August.
