Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Maryland Governor Wes Moore have intensified speculation that they could seek the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028, after exchanging supportive comments at a Washington book event. Beshear said he was no longer certain he would never run for office again, while Moore told him, “Our country needs you”; Beshear’s reply that they made “a pretty good team” prompted talk of a joint ticket.

Neither governor has formally declared a campaign, but both have repeatedly left the possibility open. They face a crowded Democratic field that may include Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Pete Buttigieg, JB Pritzker, Josh Shapiro and others; an Echelon Insights poll placed Harris at 24%, Newsom at 14% and Buttigieg at 10%, with Ocasio-Cortez and Jon Ossoff each on 8%.
