Janoo defeated Aly Richards, a former child advocacy organisation chief executive who had the backing of two former Democratic governors, Howard Dean and Madeleine Kunin, according to the Associated Press. Scott, who notably voted for Kamala Harris over Donald Trump, has repeatedly won re-election despite Vermont's Democratic lean, and Democrats have failed in each of their previous five attempts to defeat him.
