George R.R. Martin has said he is working on a fourth novella in his Dunk and Egg series, set in the same world as A Song of Ice and Fire. The announcement is notable because it offers fans new material from Westeros while the long-awaited next main Game of Thrones novel, The Winds of Winter, remains unpublished 15 years after its predecessor.

The Dunk and Egg stories follow Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire, Egg, roughly a century before the events of Game of Thrones. Martin has previously written three novellas about the pair, and their story is also being adapted for television as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms; no publication date for the fourth novella is indicated.
