Detectives investigating suspicious deaths of a father and son discovered at a remote property – as police boss reveals officers ‘did not anticipate what they found’
Police in Gurranang, northern New South Wales, found the bodies of a 79-year-old father and his 59-year-old son at the same rural property, more than two weeks apart. Detectives are treating the deaths as suspicious; police said officers returning for a follow-up visit did not expect to find the son’s body.
The father was found inside the home on 13 September, while his son was found in a shed on Monday afternoon. Police believe the son had been visiting to attend to his father’s belongings and may have died within the previous 24 to 48 hours; reports say he had multiple stab wounds. A 32-year-old man, believed to live locally, was arrested at Grafton Base Hospital and is assisting police, who have yet to establish his relationship to the victims.
