The widow of a van driver killed when an Amazon cargo plane overshot the runway at Miami International Airport has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Amazon and two pilots. Yaraisi Santiso Morejon is seeking damages after her husband, Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, 53, died along with four others when Amazon Air Flight 7598 crashed on 6 September, an incident her lawyers argue was foreseeable and preventable rather than a freak accident.

The complaint names Amazon, Amazon Air Cargo, operator 21 Air LLC, aircraft lessors, and pilots Joseph Carroll and Jaime Felipe Silva Molina, alleging pilot error, inadequate training and the use of a 32-year-old aircraft whose braking, thrust reverser and spoiler systems are under active NTSB investigation. Morejon is seeking damages exceeding $50,000. The plane, on its third San Juan-to-Miami trip that day, struck a van, a fence and an SUV; Miami International Airport lacks the runway safety technology (EMAS) used at over 120 US airports. The other victims were named as Rolando Aleman, 55, Julio C Pineda, 75, Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53, and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo, 47, with the crash's cause still under investigation.
