Horror as young man is struck down and killed by a rubbish truck in Sydney

Daily Mail · 1 hour ago

A 21-year-old man has died after being struck by a garbage truck in a restaurant car park in Mount Druitt, in Sydney's west. The collision occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning while a Cleanaway waste collection vehicle was operating in the area, and despite attempts by emergency responders to revive him, the man died at the scene. Police have launched a critical investigation, which is notable given the victim reportedly visited the rear of Mount Druitt Police Station twice earlier that evening and had interacted with officers there.

Emergency services were called to Luxford Road shortly after 2am following reports of a pedestrian collision. The truck's 31-year-old driver was uninjured but was taken to hospital for mandatory testing, standard procedure following such incidents. The man who died has not yet been formally identified. The investigation will be independently reviewed by the Professional Standards Command, with oversight from the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission, and police are appealing for information via Crime Stoppers.
