Diablo 4’s newest class barely made a splash with Lord of Hatred, but it’s shaping up to be king of the next season

PC Gamer · 2 days ago

When Diablo 4 introduced the Warlock class alongside its Lord of Hatred expansion, the new class failed to match the power level of the existing roster and other newly added classes. Warlocks were hampered by underwhelming damage output and restrictive combat mechanics that forced players to remain stationary whilst casting, creating a clunky experience at odds with the game's fast-paced action design. Meanwhile, competing classes benefited from enhanced skill trees that allowed them to perform significantly better.

Developer Blizzard recognised the class's shortcomings and is planning to address Warlocks' viability in the next seasonal update. The upcoming changes suggest the studio intends to bring Warlocks into competitive standing with the rest of the class roster, giving players a more compelling reason to adopt the previously underwhelming hero option.

  • Diablo 4's Warlock class launched underpowered with the Lord of Hatred expansion despite being a marquee feature
  • Warlocks suffered from both low damage output and awkward mechanics requiring standing still to cast, whilst other classes received skill tree improvements
  • Blizzard plans to rebalance Warlocks for the upcoming season with balance adjustments
