DIIV announce new A. G. Cook-produced album ‘ZIRP!’ via cryptic hotline
DIIV have announced a new album, 'ZIRP!', produced by A. G. Cook, unveiled through a deliberately cryptic marketing campaign rather than a conventional press rollout. Instead of advance singles or announcements, the band shared a pre-save link on Instagram and sent some fans physical business cards bearing a QR code and phone number, which connects to a spoof telemarketer-style hotline touting the record as "the future of alternative multimedia entertainment". The stunt lands at a high point for Cook, who has had a busy year working with Charli XCX on the soundtrack for A24's "The Moment" and on her album "Music, Fashion, Film".
'ZIRP!' is due for release on 30 October and follows DIIV's fourth studio album, 'Frog In Boiling Water', which NME gave three stars. Band member Colin Caulfield has previously spoken to NME about how difficult the recording process was this time round, contrasting the optimism of earlier interviews with the tensions and "big ambitions" that complicated work on the newer material.
