Dinosaur Jr. have released "Blowin' Up", the second single from their upcoming album *There Near*, following lead track "Several Got Away". The song is one of two on the record written by bassist Lou Barlow, and it channels a politically charged theme, criticising what the songwriter calls the current US administration's "death cult" — placing it firmly within the tradition of protest music.

Musically, the track is described as a folky, midtempo fuzz-rock number, with critics noting a strong resemblance between Barlow's vocal delivery and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, an influence traced back to their shared reverence for Neil Young. Barlow sings with weariness and disgust, closing with the pointed line "You want to see blood and guts / Come on." *There Near* is due for release on 28th August via Jagjaguwar, and is now available for pre-order.
