Dinosaur Jr have released their 13th studio album, *There Near*, out via Jagjaguwar, continuing the alternative rock trio's decades-long run without departing from their established sound. Recorded by the classic line-up of J Mascis, Murph and Lou Barlow in Mascis' basement and Amherst's Bisquiteen Studio, the record shows a band still capable of channelling their trademark hazy, fuzzed-out guitar rock over 40 years into their career, even if it doesn't reach the intensity of their late-1980s peak.

The review highlights tracks including "Gone Off", "Read the Room" and "Everything At Once" for their hooky, effects-laden textures, while noting Barlow's contribution "Blowin' Up" takes a more pointed lyrical turn, referencing "death cults" and social unease. The album features minor additional instrumentation from local pianist Ken Mauri but otherwise sticks close to the trio's familiar formula. The reviewer's verdict is that while There Near breaks no new ground, it still delivers engaging, lo-fi rock craftsmanship from a band that remains influential in the alternative scene. It is due for release on 28th August 2026.
