Filmmaker Mary Mazzio has released "Mighty Mary", a documentary about the 1995 all-women sailing crew who competed in the America's Cup selection trials, opening in 15 US theatres. Mazzio, a former Olympic rower, said she had wanted to tell the story for decades, having first tried to include it in an earlier ESPN project before it was cut for time; the film examines how the crew's boldness drew intense media scrutiny at a time before greater awareness of gender equality in sport and the workplace.

The documentary is backed by Paramount, through its Republic Pictures label, which is distributing it internationally after Skydance Sports initially supported the project, while AMC Entertainment's distribution arm is handling the US release. Notable sailing figures connected to the era include billionaire Bill Koch, who conceived of the all-women crew experiment, and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, who also co-founded the SailGP racing circuit now linked to Paramount-owned CBS. The film features narration from Elizabeth Banks and Hugh Jackman, and includes interviews with former male crew members and management reflecting candidly on how attitudes towards women in sport have shifted since the 1990s.
