Explained simply
RTÉ is Ireland’s public-service broadcaster, while the BBC serves the UK. Both broadcasters made The Walsh Sisters, a comedy-drama adapted from Irish author Marian Keyes’ novels about a family in Dublin.
The story centres on five sisters and their parents, with family relationships at its heart. Its first series attracted a large audience on RTÉ, and the broadcasters have ordered a second season.
Television rights can be sold to different services in different countries or after an initial broadcast. Disney+’s UK rights mean viewers there will be able to stream the series after its BBC run, alongside sales to broadcasters and services in other countries.
