Disney+ criticised for advert break during Women’s Champions League game

The Guardian · 29 minutes ago

Disney+ has been criticised after an advert break unexpectedly interrupted its live coverage of Arsenal’s opening Women’s Champions League match against HB Køge. The disruption lasted about three minutes with roughly 15 minutes remaining, although no goals were missed during Arsenal’s 1-0 victory.

Some viewers saw adverts, while others saw a “commercial break in progress” message; the interruption is understood to have resulted from a technical problem. Disney+ holds exclusive European rights under a five-year deal agreed in 2025, but its new coverage has also attracted criticism for the unconventional style of its analysis programme, The Hangout.

  • Disney+ coverage was interrupted by an unintended advert break.
  • Arsenal still won 1-0 through a 93rd-minute penalty.
  • Viewers have also criticised the broadcaster’s quirky studio format.
