Disney’s Officially Bringing Back a ’90s Cartoon Icon After 35 Years

Disney has confirmed a new *Darkwing Duck* series for Disney Plus, bringing back Drake Mallard as the crime-fighting hero after 35 years. The revival matters as another return for a character from Disney’s animation back catalogue, who previously appeared in the 2017 *DuckTales* reboot.

The story follows Darkwing in an alternate world where nobody knows of his superhero past, until a teenager named Duckie draws him back into action. Mark Hamill will voice Darkwing, alongside Seth Rogen as Launchpad, Lizzy Caplan as Gosalyn and Lilimar as Duckie; familiar villains Negaduck and Megavolt also return. Creator Tad Stones consulted on the series. The original show began in 1991 and ran for 91 episodes; Disney has not announced a release date.
