Dive into the songs Kamal. wishes he’d written in his exclusive playlist to accompany The Cover
NME has released an exclusive playlist from rising British singer Kamal. to accompany his feature on The Cover, the outlet's weekly series spotlighting emerging music talent. Titled 'Songs I Wish I Wrote', the playlist gathers tracks by artists including Phoebe Bridgers, Frank Ocean and Norah Jones, chosen by Kamal. as songs he would have loved to have written himself. It coincides with the publication of his in-depth Cover profile, written by Kyann-Sian Williams with photography by Gabriella Drew.
The London-based artist, signed to Neighbourhood Recordings since the age of 16, has built a following over six years for his hushed vocal style and reflective songwriting, with early success including 2020's 'Blue' and endorsements from Billie Eilish, Dave and Central Cee. His debut album, 'How The F*** Does Everybody Else Manage?', was released the previous week and features contributions from Dave, Natanya and Keaton Henson, exploring themes of social contradiction and morality in the modern world. The playlist is available to stream on Spotify and Apple Music.
