Fox News · 5 hours ago

Divers have found a shipwreck dating from about 2,400 years ago off the Greek island of Andros, carrying hundreds of ancient ceramic transport jars. The find could improve understanding of trade routes and seafaring in the Late Classical period, when the Mediterranean was a major commercial network.

The wreck lies 128 to 144 feet below the surface and contains an estimated 600 to 650 pointed-bottom amphorae, which may once have held goods such as wine, olive oil or grain. Archaeologists identified jars from Mende, Peparethos and Solokha 2, alongside part of a lead anchor stock and possible ballast stones; one example of each jar type has been recovered for analysis.
