Nvidia’s latest comparison images show DLSS 5 making subtler changes to faces and environments in Hogwarts Legacy ahead of the technology’s launch in the game. The revised appearance follows criticism of earlier demonstrations, where some characters looked significantly older or more altered.

DLSS 5 arrives in Hogwarts Legacy on 5 November, and Nvidia says developers have detailed control over how it is applied. An October update is intended to make it twice as fast on RTX 50-series GPUs and RTX Spark laptops, while reducing the model’s parameters by 24 per cent and 4K video memory use by 20 per cent. The updated model debuts in NBA 2K27 on 16 October; a separate Nvidia app beta update promises Frame Generation performance gains of up to 35 per cent, with minor image-quality trade-offs.

DLSS 5 is Nvidia's technology that uses artificial intelligence to improve graphics quality and speed in video games by predicting what image details should look like. This allows games to run faster without the traditional trade-off of losing visual quality.

Early testing of DLSS 5 in games showed that the AI was altering character faces more noticeably than some expected. This raised questions about how much the technology affects a game's appearance and whether developers have sufficient control over how the AI changes what players see.

The launch of DLSS 5 in major upcoming games makes this technology significant to millions of players. Early observations have highlighted that balancing the performance benefits of AI-based graphics with visual accuracy is an important consideration for both game developers and players.
