Explained simply
Doechii is an American rapper and singer whose music draws on hip-hop, pop and electronic dance music. She has described her aim as putting Black womanhood at the centre of both hip-hop and pop.
Swamp Sessions is the name for a series of her performance videos, which pair new music with a distinctive visual setting. “LOCK JAW” draws on the sound of Snap!’s 1992 dance hit “Rhythm Is a Dancer”, linking its club-inspired style to an earlier era of dance music.
Doechii’s 2024 mixtape reached the top 10 of the US Billboard 200 and won the 2025 Grammy for best rap album. That recognition has brought wider attention to her work across rap and pop.
