Bluetooth devices are often blamed for slowing down home Wi-Fi, but in most modern setups this is no longer a genuine problem. Interference can only occur on the 2.4 GHz frequency band, which Bluetooth shares with smart home protocols such as Zigbee and Thread, as well as microwaves, but most modern smartphones, laptops, TVs and other devices now connect on the faster, less congested 5 GHz or 6 GHz bands instead. Newer devices also use "Wi-Fi coexistence" logic that lets Bluetooth and Wi-Fi signals operate simultaneously without degrading each other's performance, so switching Bluetooth off is unlikely to meaningfully improve connection speed.

For those experiencing jittery streaming or gaming, there are more effective fixes than disabling Bluetooth. Using a Wi-Fi analyser app can help identify the least congested channels within the 2.4 GHz band, with channels 1, 6 and 11 typically offering the least interference; shielded cables near routers, spacing devices further apart, and using Wi-Fi extenders or mesh networks in areas with thick walls or dense neighbouring networks are also recommended. Devices are only likely to fall back to the slower, more congested 2.4 GHz band if physical barriers block their connection to faster bands, meaning environmental factors, not Bluetooth, are usually the real cause of sluggish performance.
