Dolly Parton is on track to secure her first-ever number one on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, following a huge posthumous surge in streams and sales of her 1980 hit "9 to 5". The song, written for the film of the same name, had already reached a new peak of No. 12 the previous week, but is now heading for the top spot in the midweek chart update after Parton's death on 25 August at the age of 80. The milestone underlines the scale of public affection for the singer, songwriter and philanthropist, whose catalogue is now dominating the upper reaches of the chart.

The Official Charts Company reported a 350% week-on-week jump in streams and sales for "9 to 5". Parton's other classics are also surging, with "Jolene" sitting at No. 2 (up from a previous best of No. 7) and "Islands in the Stream", her duet with Kenny Rogers, climbing to No. 6. Parton had largely stepped back from public life over the past year due to health issues that forced the cancellation of a planned 2025 Las Vegas residency, and was named Billboard's top country artist of all time in 2024. Elsewhere on the chart, Alex Warren, Dua Lipa and Olivia Rodrigo are also tipped for new or returning entries.
