Kacey Musgraves will perform a tribute to Dolly Parton at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards. The appearance will be Musgraves’ first VMAs performance in five years and follows Parton’s death, aged 80, after a brief battle with cancer on 25 August.

Musgraves has received three career VMA nominations and is shortlisted this year for Best Country with “Dry Spell”. Hosted by Snoop Dogg, the ceremony will air on 27 September on CBS and MTV in the US, stream on Paramount+, and become available globally the following day.
