Dominic Armato, voice of Guybrush Threepwood, has always loved LucasArts’ adventure games, but there’s one he still can’t get into: ‘I get 10 minutes in and I’m like, oh, this is tedious, man’
Dominic Armato, best known as the voice of Guybrush Threepwood in the Monkey Island series, says he still struggles to enjoy LucasArts’ Maniac Mansion. He revisits it from time to time but usually gives up after about 10 minutes, finding it tedious, despite his long-standing affection for the studio’s adventure games.
Armato recalls that the notoriously difficult text adventure The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy nearly put him off videogames as a child. He went on to voice Guybrush from 1997’s The Curse of Monkey Island through later games, including Return to Monkey Island. He is currently playing Chants of Sennaar on Steam Deck, recently replayed Control, and is considering a return to game voice work.
